Appalachian State Blanks Duke in Midweek Dual

BOONE, N.C. – Duke wrestling dropped a 45-0 decision to Appalachian State on Thursday night in a midweek non-conference dual.

Despite having to forfeit at 125 and 141 pounds, the Blue Devils put up a fight against their in-state opponent who were receiving votes in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll.

Junior Eric Carter battled Matt Zovistoski at 157 pounds but fell by an 8-3 decision. Rookie Wyatt Pfau earned his first dual action of the season when he took on Will Formato at 165 pounds. Unfortunately, the Brush, Colo., native dropped a 7-0 decision.

Redshirt freshman Mason Eaglin and freshman Vincent Baker also had exciting bouts. Eaglin fell by a 9-4 decision to Thomas Flitz at 174 pounds, while Paul Carson recorded a 9-5 decision-win over Baker at 197.

Duke will return to the mat again on Saturday when it hosts Pittsburgh at 10 a.m. for its ACC opener in Card Gym. The dual will be streamed live on the ACC Network Extra, with TrackWrestling providing live stats.
