Meet Katie:
How has the adjustment from HS lacrosse to college lacrosse been so far? The fast pace of college lacrosse is something that I think I have adjusted really well to. I have already learned so much on both sides of the field. I think college defense is widely different and much more difficult than high school, so I think that has been the biggest change for me. However,
Nick Williams (our defensive coach) has helped me so much with this side of the ball.
What has been your favorite moment of DWL? My favorite moment of DWL was being inaugurated into the white team for our practices. We are split into blue and white teams for competitions and scrimmages. The upper classmen each made songs for the newcomers which were all very creative and unique to each person.
Who is your roommate and what has been your favorite moment with them so far? Izzy Marsh is my roommate. It is hard to pick a favorite moment because we spend so much time together and are always having fun. When we are folding our laundry, we always blast music and scream to it at the top of our lungs so that has to be one of my favorite moments.
What was it like moving on campus in the midst of COVID-19? Although we are in the midst of COVID-19
, I could not be happier here. Everyone here – the coaches, my professors, and my teammates – have all been so welcoming and encouraging. We still have so much fun every day at practice, lift, and running with Howser. It is definitely not the most ideal way to start my college career, but I am extremely excited for what is to come in the future.
Best lacrosse memory: Winning against our rival school in high school (Greenwich Academy) in 2019 during the regular season. The atmosphere was electric. It will go down as one of my favorite sporting events ever.
Why did you choose Duke? I chose Duke for its outstanding academics and athletics. When I visited campus and met the student-athletes, there was an immediate sense of community, spirit and love for the school that radiated from them. That's when I knew I wanted to be a Blue Devil.
Goals for your collegiate career: Individually, I want to be the best teammate I can be. As a team, I want to win an ACC and national championship.
To be a part of the Duke Women's Lacrosse program is… a dream come true.
Favorite athlete: Michael Jordan
When did you start playing lacrosse? Describe your early days: I started playing lacrosse in second grade. At first, I hated the sport because the goggles did not fit my head. They were way too big so I couldn't see very well. But, eventually I got the right size and fell in love with the game.
What do you plan to major in? Undecided.
Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions? I am not a superstitious person, but I do have gameday hair.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I see myself working in a city with a job I love.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life and why? My three brothers have had the biggest impact on my life. They have each pushed me to be a better person, scholar and athlete.
