SLOVENIA — In what could be one of her final amateur events before turning professional, former Duke NCAA Champion
Virginia Elena Carta closed strong at the 2020 European Ladies' Amateur Championship, which was being played at the CUBO Golf Course Ljubljana in Slovenia.
Carta, who hails from Udine, Italy, shot six-under-par over her final two rounds to finish in a tie for 31st overall.  She collected rounds of 73, 73, 66 and 70 for a four-day ledger of 282.  She notched eight birdies in the third round and five on the final day to move up the leaderboard.
Paula Schulz-Hanseen won in a playoff after shooting a 13-under-par, 271.
Two former Duke golfers have won the European Ladies' Amateur Championship as Celine Boutier and Lisa Maguire won the title in back-to-back years in 2012 and 2011.
