DURHAM, N.C. – Lauren Rice, a 2000 Duke women's basketball graduate, is one of 18 women that have been named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 2021 Silver Anniversary Team.
The recognition is based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago.
A native of Peru, Ind., was a four-year letterwinner with the Blue Devils from 1996-2000. She closed her career helping lead Duke to its first ACC Championship in 2000 and guided the Blue Devils to their first NCAA Final Four appearance in 1999. The 6-1 forward scored 790 points, pulled down 606 rebounds and had 132 steals over her Duke career in 126 games.
Rice attended Peru High School where she was a letterwinner in basketball, volleyball and tennis. She averaged 22.3 points and 12.8 rebounds per game in her four-year career. Rice was a Street & Smith All-American honorable mention selection as a junior and senior and was a three-time Hoosier Basketball Magazine All-State honoree. She averaged 25.5 points and 13.5 rebounds as a junior.
Along with Rice on the squad is Lisa (Winter) Finn, Mackenzie (Curless) Graft, Sarah (Hurrle) Kegerreis, Rachel (Honegger) Killinger, Jill (Morton) McFarling, Melaniece (Bardley) McKnight, Janette (Jaques) Meyer, Sarrah (Stricklett) Mosher, Nicole (McDaniel) Powell, Rachel (Garner) Young, Angie (Hupfer) Bossnack, Carie (Wickham) Bronnenberg, Rainey (Alting) Jones, Lindsay (Winkler) Justus, Mandy (Lueking) Nowlin, Jamie (Stewart) Russell and Jaymee Wappes.
Due to COVID-19 conditions, a date for the 2021 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Awards Banquet has not been set. The 2021 Women's Silver Anniversary Team is expected to be honored during that event once a date is set.
