Alana Beard "Defined Defense"
In the days after Alana Beard announced her retirement, Swish Appeal published an article crediting Alana Beard with defining what it means to be a top defender in the league. Beard was named back-to-back Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 and 2018.
"While Beard's defense will be her legacy, her career is also a testament to flexibility ... and humility."
— Swish Appeal (@SwishAppeal) January 29, 2020
Now that the two-time DPOY has retired, who will the Sparks tap to anchor their defense?
Congrats on an amazing run, @Alanabeard20!#WNBA https://t.co/I0rBS19ZLo
The Duke Chronicle released a great look back at Beard's Duke career and can be found here. In 2004, @Alanabeard20 became the first @DukeWBB player to have her jersey hung up in the rafters of Cameron. Now she's hanging up her basketball shoes too.
