DURHAM, N.C. – Duke women's lacrosse junior
Katie Cronin was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
The Darien, Conn., native scored a career-high five goals in Duke's first league win of the season, a 16-10 win over No. 12 Virginia. Her five goals were the first five-goal game for a Blue Devil this season. In addition, Cronin netted her first career game-winning goal.
The recognition was the first ACC weekly award of her career.
"Cronin is fearless," Duke head coach
Kerstin Kimel said following Cronin's performance on Saturday. "I think she is capable of handling a lot. And when I say that, I mean she's capable of handling a complex scouting report. She's capable of understanding what we need from her and changing that up if need be. She did a great job of taking really good opportunities and finishing her shots."
In ACC play, Cronin has averaged four goals per game, holds a .615 shooting percentage and .846 shots on goal percentage and has been a perfect 3-for-3 from the 8-meter line. She has led or tied to lead Duke in points in both conference contests, against No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 12 Virginia.
After a midweek matinee contest against East Carolina on Tuesday, Duke stays at Koskinen Stadium to take on No. 9 Penn on Saturday. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra with opening draw slated for 1 p.m.
