DURHAM, N.C. – GoDuke.com recently checked in with Duke volleyball junior
Kincey Smith to look back at the 2019 season and to see how she's adjusting to online classes.
Where are you now?
"I am at home with my family in Wake Forest, N.C."
What are you doing to stay active?
"To stay active, I am lifting in my garage with the weights that a family friend has given me. I am also doing sprints out in our street, going for walks with my dog and mom, and playing a lot of tennis with my family. My cousin is a yoga instructor in Tennessee so I have also been doing virtual yoga sessions with her!"
How are you adjusting to online classes?
"I am adjusting well to online classes. I have set up a space at my desk in my room where I do all of my classes and schoolwork. I light some candles, have my water and coffee handy and get to work! My professors have been really awesome and are working so hard to make this a smooth transition for us."
What was your favorite memory from this season?
"My favorite memory from this season was our home game on my birthday. We ended up losing but it was really special to spend my birthday playing the game I love, with the people I love, in front of so many friends and family."
What do you miss most about being at Duke?
"The thing I miss most about being at Duke is seeing my teammates and coaches every day. It makes me appreciate the genuinely amazing relationship that I have with all of them."
As one of Duke's top defensive specialists, the junior saw action in 25 matches last season. She racked up 96 digs for a 1.43 dig/set average to rank sixth on the team and added six service aces.
The Wake Forest, N.C., native registered a season-high 11 digs in Duke's 3-1 victory over UNCW at the Duke Invitational and notched two service aces against the Seahawks and in the season opener at the College of Charleston Classic versus Michigan State.
