Duke baseball play-by-play announcer Chris Edwards is giving fans an inside look at some of his memorable baseball moments throughout his eight years as the Voice of the Blue Devils. The events highlighted during this series are not meant to be a complete listing of all memorable accomplishments, but a sampling of great moments in Edwards' words.
As the second half of ACC play began in 2018, the Duke baseball team found itself ranked in the top-15 in most national polls and were about to hit the road to Florida's capital city to take on another top-15 team in Florida State. Â
Â
Duke claimed the series opener from the Seminoles, 7-1, on Friday night but Saturday proved to be a whole new challenge. Down by one run in the ninth inning,
Kennie Taylor tripled before Michael Smicklas drove him in to square the game up and send it to extra frames.
Â
When Taylor came up again in the 11th, the Tampa, Fla., native would again provide a big hit for the Blue Devils -- homering off the scoreboard in left-center field to give Duke a 6-5 lead it would not relinquish.Â
Â
The victory would not only be the 30th of the season, marking the fifth straight year Duke achieved the feat, but it also marked the first time since 1994 that the Blue Devils had captured a series in Tallahassee.
