DURHAM, N.C.— On this date in Duke women's golf history, the Blue Devils have won two team titles under the direction of head coach
Dan Brooks.
Bryan National Collegiate
April 3, 2005
The top-ranked Duke women's golf team captured its fifth consecutive Bryan National Collegiate title, with a combined team score of 883, 10 strokes better than its closest competitor, Tennessee. The individual title also belonged to the Blue Devils. Brittany Lang was the only member of the field to finish even for the weekend at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Club. Her 216 edged Tennessee's Golda Johansson (218) for the tournament title, which was her second of the season.
Duke only brought four players to the tournament, but it proved to be enough, as three of the four finished in the top-five individually and Anna Grzebien finished in a tie for 16th. Freshman Jennifer Pandolfi tied Tennessee's Violeta Retamoza for third place, 219, and Liz Janangelo, the defending Bryan champion, tied Oklahoma State's Annie Thurman-Young for fifth place, 220.
"I am really happy for the team," said Duke head coach
Dan Brooks. "It was important for this team to have a good weekend and to go under par as that is what I am used to seeing them do that. They have played on a few tough courses this spring and I was happy to see them go under par, which is where they belong."
Duke Spring Invitational
