DURHAM, N.C. – Duke softball is set to look back at its shortened 2020 season, creating a list of top moments from the year. The Blue Devils had numerous record-breaking moments and impressive wins during their 23-4 campaign.
MOMENT NO. 10 | BOLAN WALK-OFF HIT
Checking in at No. 10 in top moments of 2020 is the walk-off victory over Weber State, 9-1, in five innings at the Texas Invitational on Friday, Feb. 21.
Bouncing back after a loss to Lipscomb in the first game of the day,
Shelby Walters and Duke's defense limited Weber State to only one run as the sophomore pitcher hurled five complete innings in which she recorded three strikeouts.
Heading into the bottom of the fifth, Duke carried a 3-1 advantage. The Blue Devils notched four of their seven hits of the contest in the bottom of the frame, beginning with singles from sophomores
Kyla Morris and
Deja Davis before senior
Dominique Salinas doubled down the right field line. Junior
Sydney Bolan brought in the final runs of the game with a two-run single to right center, securing the run-rule victory for the Blue Devils (9-1).
SYDNEY'S REFLECTION
"In the moment, I was super excited for my at-bat, because we were already having a huge hitting rally that inning and I wanted to contribute to the team's success. My mindset at the plate was to attack early in the count, so I was glad to get the hit on the first pitch she threw me. Celebrating with my teammates on the field afterwards was the best part!
