2005 – Women's Golf – Duke's
Anna Grzebien collected the first victory of her collegiate career as the sophomore fired a final round 67 to win by one stroke at the 2005 NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla.
A native of Narragansett, R.I., Grzebien entered the final round five strokes off the lead but turned in the best round of the day with a three-under-par, 67, and finished the tournament with a career-best 54-hole total of 209, which was one-under-par.
Grzebien played the first eight holes of the day at even par and then birdied the par-four hole nine as she made the turn one-under-par. Then, Grzebien bogeyed the par-four 10th, but came back to register clutch birdies on holes 13, 16 and 17 to win by one stroke over Jenny Suh of Furman and Leah Wigger of Virginia (210).
May 8
1999 – Women's Golf – With rounds of 74, 70 and 71, Duke freshman
Beth Bauer tied for first at the NCAA East Regional in Blythewood, S.C. She tied along with South Florida's Kelly Lagedrost and Jennifer Perri of Furman at The University Club Golf Club. Bauer collected a three-day ledger of 215 to collect her second victory of her collegiate career.
1999 – Women's Lacrosse – Head coach
Kerstin Kimel led the Duke women's lacrosse team to its first NCAA Final Four with an 11-10 win over James Madison in the quarterfinals. The Blue Devils put together a 13-5 record that season, just Duke's fourth year of play.
Tricia Martin,
Kate Soulier and
Kelly Dirks led Duke offensively, each recording 40+ points, while
Shannon Chaney allowed just a 7.85 goals against average in the cage. Martin earned consensus First Team All-America recognition, becoming the first Blue Devil in school history to do so, and
Kate Kaiser was named the ACC Rookie of the Year.
2004 – Women's Golf – The top-ranked and top-seeded Duke women's golf team completed the first step in obtaining its season-long goal of winning its third NCAA Championship, as the Blue Devils carded a final round 291 to win by 22 strokes at the NCAA East Regional. Duke finished with a three-day total of 869 at the Par 72, 6,165-yard El Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The victory for the Blue Devils is the 10th of the season, which was a school record.
Duke finished the tournament with three golfers in the top five of the individual standings led by sophomore
Liz Janangelo. Janangelo, the top-ranked golfer in the nation, finished the tournament tied for third with a three-day total of 217.
Brittany Lang, a freshman from McKinney, Texas, also finished tied for third with a 217. She posted a final round 74 with only one birdie on the day.
Senior Leigh Anne Hardin finished off a stellar tournament with three-day total of 218 and was tied for fifth. Hardin notched a final round 75 with no birdies after posting six birdies over the first two days.

1959 – Men's Golf – Duke claimed the 1959 ACC Championship -- its second in the program's history -- shooting 4-under as a team and beating Wake Forest by two strokes at the Finley Golf Course on UNC's campus.
Dick Siderowf paced the Blue Devils at five-under to finish second.
2015 – Women's Golf – For the ninth time in school history and the second time over the previous three years, the Duke claimed a NCAA regional championship as the Blue Devils swept both the team and individual titles at the South Bend Regional played at the 6,301-yard, par 72 Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.
Duke freshman
Leona Maguire claimed the NCAA South Regional individual title with a 54-hole ledger of four-under-par, 212, becoming just the fifth Blue Devil to win a regional title. She joined
Anna Grzebien (2005),
Leigh Anne Hardin (2002),
Virada Nirapathpongporn (2001) and Beth Bauer (1999 – tied first). Maguire, who is a native of Cavan, Ireland, is just the third Duke freshman golfer to win the title as well – Nirapathpongporn and Bauer.
As a team, Duke carded rounds of 288, 289 and 296 for a three-day ledger of nine-over-par, 873. Duke held the team lead over Purdue for most of the final round, but the Blue Devils dropped six shots on holes seven and eight to move back into the pack along with the Boilermakers and Wake Forest. Heading into the final three holes, the Demon Deacons evened the score, but Duke played those holes at one-under and Wake Forest was one-over-par.
Maguire won her second straight tournament and became the third Blue Devil to win both the ACC Championship and NCAA regional in back-to-back tournaments – Bauer in 1999 and Nirapathpongporn in 2001. Maguire finished with a three-under-par, 213.
2018 – Women's Golf – Duke claimed its 10th NCAA Regional title in school history as the top-seeded Blue Devils won the Madison Regional with an impressive 14-under-par, 850, at the 6,313-yard, par 72 University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisc.
The Blue Devils carded the second-lowest regional 54-hole ledger in school history with an 850 and won by nine strokes. Duke posted rounds of 283, 279 and 288 over the three days, while dealing with heavy rain and high winds in the final round. The 54-hole score of 850 is ranked just behind the 2007 squad that carded a 20-under, 844, on its way to winning the East Region title.
Senior
Leona Maguire carded her second straight round in the 60s on her way to posting a three-day score of eight-under, 208. Over the final two days, Maguire carded rounds of 65 and 69 to shoot 10-under-par. Sophomore
Ana Belac posted her second straight top 15 finish in a NCAA Regional as she carded a one-under, 215, after posting rounds of 70, 70 and 75. Her lone birdie of the day came on the 378-yard, par four 10th as she hit her seven-iron from 145 yards to a foot. For the round, she hit 11 greens, 10 fairways and had 31 putts. Belac placed tied second over the three days with 40 pars.
With rounds of 68, 76 and 72 for a 54-hole ledger of 216, junior
Virginia Elena Carta tied for 17th at even par.
2018 – Softball – In its inaugural season, Duke earned the seventh seed in its first ACC Tournament in program history, playing No. 10 Virginia Tech. The Blue Devils fell to the Hokies, 4-0, in the opening round and finished their first year with a 29-27 record for fifth best amongst ACC programs in the first season of competition.
May 10
1969 – Men's Golf – Thorny Hoelle shot 3-over 147 and claimed a share of the ACC individual title at MacGregor Downs in Raleigh -- the program's third ACC individual medalist. Duke finished third as a team at the 1969 championship.
2003 – Women's Golf – For the third straight year, the top-ranked Duke women's golf team won the NCAA East Regional with an eight-stroke victory at the Par 71, 6,116-Yard Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C. The Blue Devils fired a one-under-par round of 283 in the final round.
The Blue Devils finished with an 857, which was a season-best finish for the Blue Devils and was three shy of a school record (854).
Duke continued to get steady play from the entire team as all five Blue Devils finished in the top 18 of the individual rankings. Leading the way was the reigning NCAA Individual Champion,
Virada Nirapathpongporn, who finished tied fifth with a three-day total of 212. The Bangkok, Thailand native finished off the weekend with an even-par 71.

Liz Janangelo each finished tied 14th individually with a 217.
Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh and
Kristina Engstrom each collected Duke's best rounds of the day with a one-under-par round of 70.
Aazam-Zanganeh finished tied 16th overall with a 218, while Engstrom was tied 18th with a 219.
2008 – Men's Lacrosse – Matt Danowski became the NCAA's all-time leading scorer with a two-goal, five-assist performance as the top-ranked and top-seeded Blue Devils posted a 12-7 victory over 18th-ranked Loyola on Saturday afternoon in opening round action of the 2008 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament.
Danowski eclipsed the NCAA career scoring record of 343 points set by Air Force's Joe Vasta (1983-86) with an assist on
Max Quinzani's goal with five seconds remaining in the second quarter. The seven-point afternoon pushes Danowski's career total to 347 points on 167 goals and 180 assists.
The senior captain finished his career with 353 points (170g, 183a), still the most points in Duke history and fifth on the NCAA charts. His 170 goals are 26th and the 183 assists are seventh in NCAA history and fifth and first in the Duke records book, respectively.
