DURHAM, N.C. – Preseason is off and running for the Duke women's soccer program, as the squad held their first team practice of the 2020 season on Tuesday.
Tuesday's session officially kicked off the 32
nd season in program history as the team went through the first full training session of the new campaign on the 751 fields. The Blue Devil coaching staff ran the squad through a number of challenging drills while also implanting several principle plays, both offensively and defensively.
"It was a great opening day," head coach
Robbie Church said. "There was great energy and great enthusiasm. Everybody was so excited to be back together. Again, it's an unusual preseason that we have six weeks before our opening game, but I thought everybody was focused and very intense. It was fun, and we're looking forward to building on it."
It was also day one for the Blue Devils' eight freshmen:

Grace Watkins. Duke returns to the pitch Wednesday afternoon for its second practice session of the preseason.
The Blue Devils returned to campus two weeks ago, on July 21, marking the second team of Duke student-athletes to return to Durham. The team went underwent a mandatory quarantine period and acclimation period before going through physical testing prior to beginning of fall practice.
Duke made its 25
th postseason appearance in program history in 2019, falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils concluded the season ranked No. 18, marking the ninth time in the past 10 seasons that the program has closed out a season nationally ranked.
Duke returns 10 of its 11 starters from a season ago, including 21 of 25 letterwinners from 2019.
