BLACKSBURG, Va. – Senior
Erin Marsh took the top spot in the pentathlon to highlight night one for the Blue Devils at the Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House.
In her first pentathlon since winning gold at the 2020 ACC Indoor Championships, Marsh recorded a first-place total of 4,185 points – one shy of her personal record. The Buford, Ga., native placed first in the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put and long jump while taking fifth in the 800m to earn 400 points more than the second-place competitor. In the high jump, Marsh cleared 1.79 meters (5-10.5 feet) for a new PR mark that remains third all-time at Duke.
Sophomore
Elasia Campbell finished fourth in her second career pentathlon with a personal-best 3,713 points. Campbell placed second behind Marsh in the high jump and long jump. Her long jump distance of 5.63 meters (18-5.75 feet) and 800m time of 2:29.98 both marked a PR. Freshman
Brianna Smith (3,565 points) and senior
Kate Kutzer (3,373) took sixth and seventh place, respectively.
Senior
Miles Mingo broke his own school record in the men's 300m that concluded Friday night's slate. Mingo clocked a third-place time of 33.99 seconds, which beats his previous PR and the program's top time of 34.28. Graduate-transfer
Alex Schwedt finished fourth with his own PR time of 34.39 seconds, which ranks third all-time at Duke.
Four of the seven events in the heptathlon were completed on Friday, with graduate-transfer
Harry Lord in sixth place heading into tomorrow. Lord's current total of 2,711 points were boosted by a fifth-place result in the shot put, where he recorded a mark of 12.44m (40-9.75 feet).
The women's 60m hurdles continues to be a strong event for the Blue Devils early in the indoor season, as sophomore
Halle Bieber took third with a time of 8.67 seconds and sophomore
Maya Provencal finished sixth at 8.94.
In her season debut and first career 1000m, senior
Leigha Torino placed fourth with a time of 2:47.84, marking the third-best time in Duke indoor history. Sophomore
Ezra Mellinger also put himself in the Blue Devils' record book by clocking the program's fifth-fastest 60m time of 6.86 seconds.
Duke is scheduled for a full day of events on Saturday, beginning with Lord resuming the heptathlon in the 60m hurdles at 9:30 a.m.
