DURHAM, N.C.— The Duke women's basketball program currently features eight Blue Devils currently competing overseas professionally. We take a look at how the former Blue Devils are doing along with their teams.
Elizabeth Williams—Duke '15
Botas, Turkey (10-5)
2020 Highlights: 22 games, 16.3 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 1.7 APG, 1.5 SPG, 1.8 BPG
Elizabeth Williams is currently playing professionally in Turkey in her first season with Botas (10-5). In the win against Mersin (9-5) in the Turkish KBSL on Dec. 30, Williams scored 24 points and notched 12 rebounds in 40 minutes. With Williams' help, this was Botas' sixth consecutive victory.
Chelsea Gray—Duke '14
Spar Citylift Girona, Spain (2-10)
2020 Highlights: 13 games, 10.8 PPG, 3.0 RPG and 4.1 APG
Chelsea Gray has been doing quite well this season with Spar Citylift Girona (2-10). The team is currently 13th in the Liga Dia. This week Gray contributed to a win against fifth-ranked Gernika (10-8), 69-60. Gray scored 10 points and had a total of six assists in the game.
Jasmine Thomas—Duke '11
Fenerbahce, Turkey (11-3)
2020 Highlights: 13.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 4.2 APG, 1.3 SPG
Jasmine Thomas is currently playing in Turkey with Fenerbahce. Thomas recently helped Fenerbahce (11-3) knock off Hatay (5-8), winning 75-42 in the Turkish KBSL. In the game, Thomas collected nine points, five rebounds and three assists in 22 minutes. Only four games remain in the regular season with Fenerbahce Spor Kulubu Istanbul ranking third in the KBSL.
Angela Salvadores—Duke '16
Besiktas, Turkey (7-7)
2020 Highlights: 13 games, 16.8 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 4.8 APG, and 1.5 SPG
Angela Salvadores is playing in Turkey with Besiktas (7-7). This week Salvadores was a key player in Besiktas' win against Hatay (5-8) in the Turkish KBSL with 18 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and went 5-of-5 from the free throw line. She helped lead her team to their sixth consecutive win, placing them sixth in KBSL. Only four games remain in the regular season.
Haley Peters—Duke '14
Villeneuve D'Ascq ESB Lille Metropole, French LFB (5-3)
2020 Highlights: 8 games, 11.5 PPG, 5.8 RPG, 1.8 APG
Hayley Peters has been doing well in her current forward position for Villeneuve D'Ascq ESB Lille Metropole (5-3) in the French LFB. Peters has led her team get to a total of five wins this season. Peters and her teammates just came off a tough loss from Bourges (9-0) at 97-94, where Peters put up 10 points for her team. Peters and her Villeneuve D'Ascq ESB Lille Metropole squad will next play January 13 against Bretagne (5-3).
Erin Mathias—Duke '18
Empoli, Italian Serie A1 (8-6)
2020 Highlights: 14 games, 13.5 PPG, 8.9 RPG, 0.9 APG
Erin Mathias has averaged 13.5 points per game this season to go along with 8.9 boards. Mathias has helped her squad to eight wins, with six of those wins being at home. Mathias contributed to Empoli's game last week against Ragusa (10-2) where Mathias put up 11 points for her team. Mathias and Empoli will next play against former Duke teammate
Sofia Roma and Broni (4-9) in Round 15.
Haley Gorecki—Duke '20
Zaragoza, Spanish Liga Dia (6-11)
2020 Highlights: 13 games, 9.0 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.5 APG
Haley Gorecki is beginning to excel in her guard position with Zaragoza (6-11) in Spanish Liga Dia. With this being her first professional season of her career, Gorecki has been doing quite well with the games she has been able to play for her team. With being able to compete in 13 out of 17 games this year, Gorecki has averaged 9.0 points and 4.3 rebounds. Zaragoza will next face Girona (15-2) on January 10, in Round 20.
Sofia Roma—Duke '19
Broni, Italian Serie A1 (4-9)
2020 Highlights: 11 games, 3.1 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 0.6 APG
Sofia Roma plays center for Broni (4-9) in Italian Serie A1. In just her second professional season, Roma is averaging 3.1 points and 3.8 rebounds. Just coming off a win against Vigarano (1-11) where Roma managed to come up with four rebounds in her playing time of eight minutes. Roma and her squad will next face former Duke teammate Erin Mathias and Empoli (8-6) in Round 15 on January 10.
