DURHAM – As the Blue Devils prepare for the 2022 baseball season, head coachÂ
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to introduce the incoming freshman class.
Over the fall semester, GoDuke.com will release individual introductions of its 12-member freshman class.
Â
An outfielder from Nashville, Tenn.,
Devin Obee is the fourth member of the freshman class to be introduced this fall.
Â
"Devin has been really impressive in both his performance and his approach since arriving on campus in late June," Pollard said. "He combines an advanced understanding of work ethic and process with a really special physical skill set. The combination of speed and power is unique and special. We have seen some trackman exit velocities from his bat this fall that you don't usually see from a true freshman."
Â
Obee accumulated honors while at Ensworth High School. He was a two-time All-State honoree and was named to the 2020 Tennessee Pre-season All-American team. He earned 2019 Player of the Year honors as a sophomore.
Â
Most recently, Obee appeared and started 27 games in 2021. He batted .224 with three doubles, three triples and three home runs. He also stole seven bases.
Â
Although cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic, Obee's 2020 season was off to a hot start after being named to the 2020 Tennessee Preseason All-America Team. He was averaging a .429 clip with two doubles and a stolen base.
Â
Prior to his junior season, Obee hit .388 and started all 31 games for Ensworth as a sophomore. He totaled four home runs, 14 doubles, 27 RBI 27 runs and 25 stolen bases.
Â
Obee was recently tabbed as the 160th freshman in the nation and the 33rd-ranked freshman in the ACC by Perfect Game. Apart from school ball, Obee participated in the 2020 PG National Showcase, the 2020 East Coast Pro Showcase and the USA 15u and 16u Developmental programs. He was named to the 2019 and 2020 PG Preseason Underclassmen All-American Teams.
Â
In addition to baseball, Obee also competed on Ensworth's football and basketball teams throughout his high school career.
Â
Off the field, Obee is an honor roll student that is involved in Project Talk and the Ensworth Student Panel. He also is active in the community, having served at the Cheatham County Animal Shelter and the Bowling Green Housing Authority.
Â
He is the son of Terry and Christine Obee and comes from a family of collegiate athletes. His dad, Terry, played football at Oregon from 1986-1990 before enjoying a career in the NFL, most notably appearing in 16 games for the Chicago Bears in 1993 as a return specialist. Following his stint in the NFL, Terry went on to coach college football at Stanford (2006-2010) and Western Kentucky (2010-2015). Obee's brother, Tyler, played football at Western Kentucky from 2016-2019.
