DURHAM – Men's basketball junior
Wendell Moore Jr., has been named Duke's PNC Achievers Student-Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Blue Devils to a pair of wins that included a victory over No. 1 Gonzaga on Friday night in Las Vegas.
Moore got the week started by nearly recording his second triple-double of the season, posting 22 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in Monday's home win over The Citadel. He followed up with another impressive all-around performance on the big stage versus Gonzaga, recording 20 points, six boards, six assists and a career-high six steals.
The Charlotte, N.C., native was named the Most Valuable Player of the Continental Tire Challenge as 16 of his 20 points came in the second half, including a 5-of-6 free throw rate in the game's final 90 seconds.
For the week, Moore averaged 21.0 points on .583 field goal shooting (14-of-24) to go with 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists. The junior turned the ball over just three times to his 15 total assists.
Moore and the Blue Devils (7-0) once again face a marquee opponent away from home, as they travel to Ohio State for the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. on ESPN.
