DURHAM, N.C. – Duke is back at home Friday and Sunday when it hosts East Tennessee State and Furman, respectively, at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.
Â
The Blue Devils will welcome the Bucs on Friday for a 3 p.m. matchup, before battling the Paladins on Sunday at 11 a.m. This weekend's matches mark Duke's last regular season contests, as the Blue Devils begin ACC play Feb. 26 at Georgia Tech.
Duke will begin the spring sport season without spectators at home events due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Contests played on Duke's campus will only include game management personnel and broadcast media.
HISTORY WITH ETSU
Friday's contest will be just the second all-time meeting between these two programs. Duke won the only other matchup on Feb. 24, 1985, 9-0.
SCOUTING THE BUCS
East Tennessee State sports an 0-3 record heading into the contest. The Bucs and Blue Devils have faced similar opponents as they have both squared off against nationally ranked Tennessee and Kentucky. The Bucs also dropped a match to William and Mary, 4-3, during their last outing on Feb. 7.
HISTORY WITH FURMAN
Duke leads the all-time series with Furman 24-2, including a 4-0 shutout win during the teams' last meeting on Feb. 24, 2018. The Blue Devils have won 19 consecutive heading into Sunday's action.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
Furman sits at 2-1 on the year, having defeated Davidson (5-2) and Gardner-Webb (7-0). The Paladins dropped their lone contest to Charlotte (5-0) during their last match back on Jan. 29.
LAST TIME OUT
Duke fell in a hard-fought battle to No. 19 Kentucky on Sunday afternoon, 4-3, at Boone Tennis Center. The Blue Devils nearly pulled off the comeback in singles action after dropping the doubles point earlier in the day.Â
Andrew Zhang,Â
Sean Sculley, andÂ
Faris Khan all registered wins but it wasn't enough to lift Duke past its nationally ranked foe.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils will shift their attention to ACC action when they travel to Georgia Tech and Clemson on Feb. 26 and 28, respectively. Friday's matchup with the Yellow Jackets is slated for 3 p.m. in the Byers Tennis Complex, while Sunday's meeting with the Tigers is set for 1 p.m. at the Duckworth Family Tennis Center.
