DURHAM – Coming off two impressive showings over the last two weeks on the course, the Duke women's golf program continues to move up the national rankings. The Blue Devils are currently No. 2 in the GolfStat.com and No. 5 in the Golfweek team rankings. Â
Duke claimed the team title at the Gamecock Intercollegiate with an even-par, 864, two weeks ago and then backed that up with a runner-up finish at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. The Blue Devils carded a 27-under-par score of 837 over three days, which included a 14-under, 274, and 11-under, 277, in the first two rounds. Â
In the GolfStat.com ledger, Duke is second behind South Carolina with Wake Forest, LSU, Florida State, Ole Miss, Arizona State, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Southern California rounding out the top 10. Â
South Carolina is No. 1 in the Golfweek rankings as well with Florida State, Wake Forest, Baylor, Duke, Ole Miss, Southern California, Arizona State, LSU and Oklahoma State in the top 10.
Sophomore
Erica Shepherd won her first collegiate tournament at the Gamecock Intercollegiate, while
Phoebe Brinker has placed tied for second and tied for third in her last two events. Brinker, who hails from Wilmington, Del., has shot 12-under-par over the last two events. This included a 10-under-par ledger at the Valspar Augusta Invitational as she shot a Duke freshman record eight-under-par, 64. Â
In the latest Golfweek Individual rankings, the Blue Devils feature three listed in the top 60 -- Shepherd (13), Brinker (28) and
Gina Kim (60). Senior
Jaravee Boonchant made her 2021 debut in Augusta with a tied for sixth finish and is expected to move into the rankings soon.Â
The Blue Devils will next compete in the Big Four Challenge in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, March 20 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
