Peter Matt was 4-for-6 at the plate, but Notre Dame rallied with the game's final four runs as the Duke baseball team dropped a 6-4 decision in 13 innings Friday night at Frank Eck Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind.

The Blue Devils out-hit the Fighting Irish 13-8, but a two-run home run with one out in the bottom of the 13
th inning allowed the hosts to walk off with the series opener.

Matt had four hits and scored, while senior
Joey Loperfido and junior
RJ Schreck also recorded multi-hit outings for the Blue Devils. Loperfido went 2-for-5 with a walk and run scored. Schreck, a native of Los Angeles, Calif., finished 2-for-6 with an RBI and a run.

Cooper Stinson made his fourth start and the Peachtree Corners, Ga., native allowed four runs, three earned, on four walks and three hits in 5.2 innings of work. Stinson also recorded five punchouts.

Notre Dame (8-2, 8-2 ACC) opened the scoring with two in the bottom of the third inning. Duke (7-7, 3-4 ACC) responded the next frame, plating four on four hits, three walks and two wild pitches. Schreck singled through the right ride to score Loperfido from third for Duke's first run of the inning. Matt and Schreck scored the second and third runs of the inning, both on wild pitches. Junior

The Fighting Irish responded in the bottom of the sixth with two runs to knot the game at 4-4, and it remained deadlocked until the 13
th inning.

Marcus Johnson, junior
Jimmy Loper and senior
Matt Dockman, combined for 6.2 innings of work allowing just two runs, both earned, on five hits. The trio combined for nine strikeouts and gave up no walks.

- Matt's four-hit performance on Friday was his seventh career game with four or more hits.
- Johnson matched his career-high of 2.1 innings pitched. His three strikeouts matched a career-high, previously set this season against Pittsburgh on March 7.
- Dockman put in 2.1 innings of work with three strikeouts, both season highs.
- Rothenberg extended his on-base streak to 38 consecutive games.
- Senior Chris Crabtree extended his hit streak to a team-leading eight consecutive games.
