DURHAM, N.C. – Women's golf junior
Gina Kim has been selected Duke's PNC Achiever's Student-Athlete of the Week, after winning the ACC individual title on Friday and helping lead the Blue Devils to the 22nd ACC Championship with a 5-0 win over Florida State on Sunday.
Kim carded rounds of 68, 69 and 69 for a 10-under-par, 206, over three rounds of stroke play to claim the ACC Individual title at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. She became the 14th Blue Devil to win an ACC crown and marked the 20
th ACC individual medalist in school history. Kim joined Blue Devil two-time All-America selection Brittany Lang as the only golfers in ACC history to collect three straight rounds in the 60s at the ACC Championship.
A product of Chapel Hill, N.C., Kim's 10-under ledger helped the Blue Devils earn the No. 1 seed heading into match play where Duke would go up against fourth-seeded Virginia in the semifinals. Kim kept her momentum going into match play as she defeated Jennifer Cleary by a 3&2 score to clinch the victory for the Blue Devils and send Duke into the ACC title match.
Kim would have to go up against sixth-ranked Beatrice Wallin of Florida State in the championship match Sunday. After trailing early, Kim gained control of the match and would not trail after the fourth hole. Kim clinched the 3&2 victory for Duke for the second straight day on hole No. 16 with a par to give the Blue Devils the championship for the sixth time out of the last nine years.
Over her three seasons at Duke, Kim has now helped the Blue Devils win an ACC and NCAA Championship.
