GREENBORO, N.C. – Following a strong performance in the NC State series, junior
Shelby Walters collected her first weekly honor as she was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.
The Cohutta, Ga., native picked up a 2-0 record in three appearances on the weekend, including the program's first combined no-hitter in Duke's 10-0 five-inning win on Friday night. She finished the weekend with a 0.00 ERA through 10.1 innings, only letting up six hits and six walks, while striking out eight Wolfpack batters.
In her first appearance of the weekend, Walters started in the circle and threw two hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts on Friday. Walters went 5.1 frames in game three of the series for her first win, letting up three hits while striking out a pair. She entered in relief in game four to tally her second victory of the weekend, pitching three innings in which she tallied four punchouts.
The honor is the first of her career and fourth weekly pitching award for Duke this season as senior
Peyton St. George has won it on three occasions.
