ATHENS, Ga. – The 17th-ranked Duke softball team is set to begin its first NCAA postseason as the No. 13 national seed and No. 1 seed in the Athens Regional, May 21-23, at Jack Turner Stadium.
 
The Blue Devils will open the weekend against UNC Greensboro on Friday, May 21, at 12 p.m. on ACC Network. Live stats will be available for the entirety of the weekend on

Fans will be permitted at Jack Turner Stadium and tickets will be sold on a game-by-game basis at $10 each for general admission. Stadium capacity will be a 100 percent this weekend. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Duke will be facing UNCG for the first time in program history. Should the Blue Devils match up with Georgia and Western Kentucky, those will also be the first meetings between the schools.
UNCG: The Spartans, the 2021 Southern Conference Champions, enter the postseason with a 34-15 overall record. UNCG's offense is paced by Makenna Matthijs with a .361 batting average on 60 hits, including 11 doubles and 13 home runs, and 43 RBIs. The team has combined for 89 home runs as nine players have seven or more. The Spartans' pitching staff holds a 3.38 ERA and is led by Morgan Scott with a 20-8 record, 20 complete games in 180.1 innings pitched and 200 strikeouts.
Georgia: The Bulldogs have put together a 29-21 ledger in the 2021 campaign and finished 11th in the SEC with a 7-17 mark. Sydney Kumma has totaled a team-high 47 hits, 14 home runs and 34 RBIs this season while Sydney Chambley leads the squad with a .304 clip. Georgia has utilized seven arms in the circle this year as Mary Wilson Avant leads the staff with a 15-10 record in 31 appearances through 169.2 frames with 175 punchouts. 
Western Kentucky: The Hilltoppers enter the regional as the Conference USA Champions with a 31-13 record. As a team, Western Kentucky combines for a .311 batting average which is the highest among the four programs in the regional. Their offense is led by Paige Carter who's batting .384 with 56 hits, including 18 doubles and 13 home runs, and 28 walks. Western Kentucky has been active on the base paths, going 60-for-70 on stolen bases, led by TJ Webster with 19. The Hilltoppers' pitchers hold a 2.24 team ERA as Shelby Nunn has made a team-high 25 appearances for a 12-4 record in 87.2 innings pitched.
 
ALL-REGION HONORS
Duke saw its first NFCA All-Southeast Region honors as junior 
Deja Davis was a First Team selection, junior 
Shelby Walters earned Second Team and senior 
Peyton St. George rounded out the Blue Devils on the Third Team.
 
ACC CHAMPIONS
In only its fourth year as a program, Duke won its first ACC Championship title as the third-seeded Blue Devils shut out top-seeded Clemson, 1-0, last Saturday afternoon. Duke defeated the host team in No. 6 Louisville, 4-3, in the quarterfinals and rallied for a 4-3 victory over No. 2 Florida State in the semifinals.
Following their strong performances throughout the tournament, 
Kristina Foreman, St. George, 
Gisele Tapia and Walters all earned ACC All-Tournament Team honors, while St. George was named the MVP.
 
IN THE NATIONAL RANKS
After a 3-0 week at the ACC Championship, Duke improved in the RPI and all four national polls. The Blue Devils are No. 13 in the RPI and No. 17 in both the USA Today/NFCA Division I Coaches Poll and ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25. Duke's highest ranking comes in Softball America at No. 12 and its lowest is No. 19 in D1Softball.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The winner of the Athens Regional will advance to the Super Regionals for a best-of-three series against the winner of the Gainesville Regional. The Gainesville Regional is hosted by No. 4 Florida and features Baylor, South Alabama and South Florida.
