DURHAM, N.C. ā Duke University women's golf rising junior
Megan Furtney will compete in the 87th Illinois State Women's Amateur Championship, which will take place June 15-17 at the Pine Meadow Golf Club in Mundelein, Ill.
Golfers will play an 18-hole qualifying round on June 15 to seed the 32-player match play championship.Ā The tournament will be limited to the lowest 48 handicap indexes. The first round of matches will take place on Tuesday afternoon and there will be morning and afternoon matches on Wednesday with the semifinal and final matches being contested on Thursday.
Since joining the Blue Devils two years ago, Furtney has competed in six stroke play events and is coming off a sophomore season where she compiled a 74.78 stroke average.Ā At the Valspar Augusta Invitational, Furtney opened play with rounds of 71 and a career-low of 69. Ā
Furtney, who hails from St. Charles, Ill., had a solid fall season as she placed tied for fifth at the Golfweek Hoosier Amateur with rounds of 77, 74 and 74 for a 225, tied for sixth at the Golfweek Purdue Amateur with rounds of 71, 70 and 76 for a one-under-par, 217 and turned in a tied for seventh finish at the Golfweek Caledonia Amateur with rounds of 69, 70 and 72 for a two-under-par, 211.
