DURHAM, N.C. — The Duke women's golf program will feature two Blue Devils in the 2020 Olympics as Celine Boutier of France and Leona Maguire of Ireland were officially named two of 60 golfers to compete Aug. 4-7 at Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kawagoe, Saitama, Japan.
It will mark the second straight appearance for Maguire and the first for Boutier, after golf returned to Olympic action in 2016 in Rio.
In 2016, Maguire turned in a tied for 21st ledger with rounds of 74, 65, 74 and 69 for a 2-under-par, 282, which tied for low amateur. Maguire, a 2018 Duke graduate, is in just her second full season on the LPGA, and is having her best season as a professional. She is currently ranked 16th on the LPGA money list and has carded three straight top-15 finishes. Maguire owns a runner-up finish at the Meijer LPGA Classic and the LOTTE Championship on the year, along with six additional top-16 placements.
Boutier will make her first appearance in the Olympics for France and has been one of the hottest golfers on the LPGA Tour over the last four months. She currently ranks 32nd on the LPGA Tour money list and has finished in the top-8 of her last three tournaments. Boutier, a 2016 Duke graduate, owns seven top-20 finishes on the season. Her highest finish of the year came at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship with a tied for fifth placement.
Both Boutier and Maguire will be one of two golfers from their home country to see action in the Olympics this summer.
It will mark the second straight Olympics that Duke women's golf will have two representatives compete as Laetitia Beck joined Maguire in 2016 and tied for 31st for her home country of Israel.
