DURHAM – Fresh off being named to
Extra Innings Softball's Extra Elite 100 College Player Rankings, the trio of graduate student
Peyton St. George and seniors
Deja Davis and
Shelby Walters have been tabbed to Softball America's Preseason College Top-100 rankings.
Davis leads the group as the No. 54 player in the nation, followed by Walters at No. 64 and St. George at No. 71.
Davis adds another honor to her growing list of accolades, that included becoming the first All-American in program history last season. The Cerritos, Calif., native was one of the top offensive players in the country, hitting .389 with 23 extra-base hits, 28 RBI, 14 stolen bases and was named a top-25 finalist for the National Player of the Year.
The duo of Walters and St. George check in to another list together, after forming an elite one-two punch in the circle for the Blue Devils in 2021. Both players were named All-ACC First Team, with Walters being named to the NFCA's All-Region second team and St. George tabbed to the third team. Walters and St. George combined to win 37 games, strike out 286 batters and throw 22 complete games.
The Blue Devils are set to open the 2022 season at the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. Duke will begin the five-game stretch against California Baptist and Oklahoma State on Feb. 11, at 11 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. ET.
