Blue Devils Picked Fourth in ACC, Davis & Kavel Named Preseason All-ACC

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Duke softball program has been picked fourth in the 2022 ACC preseason poll, while graduate student Jameson Kavel and senior Deja Davis have been tabbed to the Preseason All-ACC Team, as the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Blue Devils finished with 119 points and one first place vote in a tight poll that split the first-place vote between four teams. Florida State (137 points) was voted first, followed by Clemson (128), Virginia Tech (126) and the Blue Devils.
Duke was one of five teams with multiple representatives on the 14-member All-ACC unit, with the program earning multiple honorees for the first time in program history. Davis becomes the first in program history to be named to the preseason team on two occasions, after being named last season.
Kavel was selected for the first time and joins Davis and Raine Wilson as the only players to be named to the annual list in program history. Both Davis and Kavel were named All-ACC first team at the end of last season.
The duo were the two most consistent hitters in the Blue Devils lineup in 2021, with Davis hitting .389 with 23 extra-base hits, 14 stolen bases and 28 RBI, while Kavel hit .320 with 13 doubles, 33 RBI and 20 stolen bases.
The Blue Devils will open the season at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz., where the team will face California Baptist, Oklahoma State, Arizona State and Utah from Feb. 11-13.
