DURHAM – As the Blue Devils prepare for the 2022 baseball season, head coachÂ
Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to introduce the incoming freshman class.
Over the fall semester, GoDuke.com will release individual introductions of its 12-member freshman class.
Â
Left-handed pitcher and outfielder
Jonathan Santucci is the final member of Duke's freshman class to be introduced prior to the season.
Â
"Certainly, Jonathan is one of the most talented two-way players in college baseball," Pollard said. "He has a really special combination of bat speed and arm strength. But that's not what impressed me the most this fall. Jonathan is a true 'gym rat'. He is a guy that loves to get to the field early and stay late. He puts in a lot of time on his own working at his craft. When you combine his unique physical skill set with that drive and work ethic, it is easy to see why big things are in store for Santucci at Duke."
Â
Santucci, a native of Leominster, Mass., lettered three seasons at Phillips Academy Andover under head coach Kevin Graber. He hit .322 in his career with six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 29 RBIs. In addition, he made a handful of appearances on the mound, allowing one run and striking out 11 in seven innings of work.
Â
He was tabbed the second-ranked recruit out of Massachusetts and 64th overall player in the class of 2022. In addition, he was No. 26 (eighth in the ACC) in D1Baseball's top players entering college baseball. Santucci earned 2021 Perfect Game First Team All-American honors as a senior and was named to the PF Northeast All-Region First Team as a junior.
Â
On the club scene, Santucci was a 2019 PG Underclassman All-American and named to the 2020 Ultimate Baseball Championship All-Tournament Team, the Perfect Game National Showcase Top Prospect Team and the PG 17u Southeast Elite Championship All-Tournament Team.
Â
Off the field, Santucci was a member of National Honor Society and volunteered with Challengers Baseball, a program which teaches children with special needs the fundamentals of the sport.
Â
Born Jonathan Joseph Santucci on December 28, 2002, he is the son of Steven and Stephanie Santucci. He has two sisters, Isabella and Gabriella. His dad was a member of the Assumption College baseball program from 1991-93. His cousin, Nick Santucci is currently on the Rollins College baseball team.

What are you looking forward to at Duke? I am looking forward to helping my team get to Omaha and compete for a National Championship.
Why Duke? I chose Duke because of the blend of academics and athletics that the school has to offer. Academics have always been important to me, so I felt like Duke would be a great place to get an amazing education but also to develop as a baseball player. When I visited, it felt like home so I knew it was the right place for me.
