DURHAM – The Duke baseball program has added left-handed pitcher
Caleb McRoy to the roster heading into the 2022 season.
Â
McRoy, a native of Raleigh, N.C., comes to Duke after playing his first three collegiate seasons at North Carolina Central University. He made 38 appearances, including four starts, to hold a 4.03 ERA. He also tallied 74 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a .177 batting average in 53.2 innings of work.
"Caleb is no stranger to the Duke baseball program," Duke head coach
Chris Pollard said. "He pitched against us on multiple occasions over his career at NCCU. McRoy possesses a true swing and miss fastball. He has been especially tough on left-handed hitters in his college career. As a staff we knew that he was a guy who could pitch in the ACC after he struck out the side in a really impressive performance against our offense during the 2021 campaign. He backed that up with a strong summer in the CPL. He comes into our program as an experienced arm who has pitched in a lot of high leverage situations over the last three years."
 Â
In his most recent season, McRoy held a 4.40 ERA with a 2-3 record in 20 appearances. He fanned 40 batters in 28.2 innings pitched. McRoy also added two saves, including one against Florida A&M in the 2021 MEAC Baseball Championship Semifinals.
Â
McRoy graduated from NC Central in December of 2021 with a degree in business administration. He is the son of James and Stacy McRoy.
Â
Duke continues to prepare for opening day against Virginia Military Institute on February 18.
