DURHAM – Senior offensive lineman Jacob Monkwas named Co-ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week following a strong rushing attack by Duke in its 38-17 victory over Virginia.
A native of Clayton, N.C., Monk played both center and guard for Duke on Saturday evening, spearheading an offense effort that produced 38 points, 26 first downs and 377 total yards, while committing zero turnovers, surrendering just one sack and converting on 2-of-3 fourth down attempts. Monk helped open holes for a ground attack that rushed 48 times for 269 yards and four touchdowns against a Virginia defense surrendering just 133.0 rushing yards per game.
The Duke offensive line yielded just one sack to Virginia, which entered the week with an ACC-best 14 sacks on the season. Monk led Duke with 11 knockdown blocks and helped the Blue Devils hold possession for 36:30 of the contest, a season-high for Duke.
The ACC's other weekly honors included North Carolina's Drake Maye (quarterback/rookie), Georgia Tech's Hassan Hall (running back), Charlie Thomas (linebacker) and Gavin Stewart (specialist), Boston College's Zay Flowers (wide receiver) and Chibueze Onwuka (defensive tackle), Wake Forest's Michael Jurgens (Co-offensive lineman) and Florida State's Jammie Robinson (defensive back).
