THE OPENING TIP
- The Blue Devils look to bounce back from their first setback of the season when they take on Oregon State in the third-place game of the PK Legacy on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 7 p.m. PT/ 10 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
- Pam Ward and Stephanie White will be on the call, with Brooke Weisbrod reporting from the sidelines. Chris Edwards will call the action on the radio on the Blue Devil Sports Network from Learfield.
- Duke women's basketball suffered its first loss of the season, dropping a 78-50 decision to No. 3 UConn Friday evening at the Chiles Center.
- Sophomore Shayeann Day-Wilson paced the scoring and rebounding efforts for Duke (5-1) with 17 points and seven rebounds.
- Senior Elizabeth Balogun also finished the game in double figures as she netted 13 points off the bench.
- The Blue Devils connected on a season-high six three-pointers and outscored UConn 24-10 off the bench.
- Duke has received a huge lift from its reserves through six games this season, averaging 34.5 points off the bench.
- Sunday night's tilt will be just the third all-time meeting between Duke and Oregon State, with both teams posting wins on their home floors.
- In the most recent meeting back on Dec. 20, 2018, the Beavers posted a 71-57 win.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
- Oregon State sits at 4-1 after falling to No. 9 Iowa, 73-59, Friday evening in the first round of the PK Legacy.
- Talia von Oelhoffen led OSU in scoring with 22 points while Shalexxus Aaron had her best game as a Beav with 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 from three. Jelena Mitrovic did yeoman's work on the boards, grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds.
- Head coach Scott Rueck is in his 13th year at Oregon State and 26th season overall. He owns a 261-129 record with the Beavers.
A STEADY OFFENSIVE PRESENCE
- The Duke quintet of senior Elizabeth Balogun, junior Kennedy Brown, sophomores Shayeann Day-Wilson and Reigan Richardson and senior Celeste Taylor have provided a steady hand for the Blue Devils in the early 2022-23 season, combining for 65.4 percent (46.6)points) of the team's 71.2 points per game.
- Brown, Taylor and Richardson have reached double-figure scoring in four of the six games this season, while Balogun has finished in double digits three times and Day-Wilson twice.
- Taylor has led the offensive charge for Duke averaging 10.7 points per game, with Balogun in second at 10.2 points a contest.
- Brown (9.5) and Day-Wilson (8.2) are next in line while Richardson (8.0) has provided instant offense off the bench for Duke.
CORVALLIS CONNECTION
- Three members of the 2022-23 Duke women's basketball program -- junior Kennedy Brown, graduate student Taya Corosdale and Director of Recruiting and Player Development Aleah Goodman -- share ties with Oregon State as the trio previously played for the Beavers.
- Brown and Corosdale transferred to Duke from Oregon State during the summer of 2022.
- Brown started 44 of the 53 games she played in an Oregon State uniform and averaged 7.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
- Corosdale made 102 starts through 121 games with the Beavers, averaging 6.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
- Goodman was a two-time captain with the Beavers and closed her career by being selected No. 30 overall by the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA in the 2021 draft. As a senior, Goodman was a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, an All-Pac-12 selection and an All-Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention, while leading the team with 16.2 points and 4.9 assists per game.
