DURHAM – Taking the court for the first time of the 2022-23 season, the Duke women's basketball team raced to a 90-36 victory over the IUP Crimson Hawks in its lone exhibition Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Senior guard
Celeste Taylor led the offensive charge for the Blue Devils with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, also adding three assists, four steals and two blocks. Three other Duke players finished in double figures as junior
Kennedy Brown and redshirt junior
Jordyn Oliver each chipped in 12 points and
Vanessa de Jesus added 10. Oliver dished a team-leading five assists, while also matching graduate student
Mia Heide with a team-leading five rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Duke jumped out to a 10-4 lead behind transition buckets from Celeste Taylor and Jordyn Oliver along with a trio of strong finishes in the paint by Kennedy Brown.
- After the Crimson Hawks cut the gap to three at the midway point of the first quarter, the Blue Devils closed the quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 26-11 advantage into the second.
- Seven Duke players scored during the opening 10 minutes, with Brown leading the way with eight points.
- Vanessa de Jesus got in on the scoring action for Duke, netting five points to pace the Blue Devil scoring. Taylor and Brown also added four points apiece as Duke took a 42-25 advantage into the break.
- The Blue Devils forced 20 IUP turnovers in the first half, scoring 21 points off those miscues. They also netted 19 points off the bench and 14 points off the fastbreak.
- Duke defense was stout in the second half as the team held IUP to just four points (1-of-20 shooting) and seven points (1-of-7 shooting), respectively, in the third and fourth quarters.
- On the offensive end, the Blue Devils were led by Taya Corosdale and Reigan Richardson in the third as the duo scored eight and six points, respectively. Defensively, Duke rejected six shots with Taylor (two) and Mia Heide (two) combining for four of those.
- The Blue Devils put the finishing touches on the victory with a 29-point fourth quarter that featured seven different scorers, led by Oliver (eight) and Shayeann Day-Wilson (six).
GAME NOTES:
- Duke finished the game with four double-figure scorers – Taylor (16), Brown (12), Oliver (12), de Jesus (10)
- The Blue Devils shot 54.4 percent from the field and 53.8 percent from three
- Duke scored 45 points off 36 IUP turnovers, got 49 points from its bench and held a 30-2 advantage in fastbreak points.

Duke is back in action on Monday as the Blue Devils officially open the 2022-23 season with the home-opener against North Carolina A&T at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Tipoff is slated for 11 a.m. and the game will air live on ACC Network Extra.
