Sarah Foley both earned 2024 U.S. Olympic Trial times during the prelims for day three. Olympic Trials will be held in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., June 15-23, 2024.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman Kaelyn Gridley qualified for the finals Friday evening, swimming a time of 1:08.69 in the 100-meter breaststroke. Her time was fast enough to qualify the Wilmette, Ill. native for Olympic trials.
- In the 100-meter breaststroke finals, Gridley swam a time of 1:08.46 to finish second behind Mona McSharry from Ireland.
- Gridley becomes the 18 and under US Champion with her silver medal finish in the 100-meter breaststroke. She also was the fastest American in the event, finishing behind Ireland's Mona McSharry.
- Junior Sarah Foley also joined Gridley with an Olympic trial qualification in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking a time of 1:10.24 to qualify for the finals. Foley also finished 8th in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:01.36.
- Freshman Audrey Portello finished 15th in the 400-meter IM on Friday with a time of 4:56.72.
- Freshman Martina Peroni clocked a time of 1:00.79, dropping her season time by 1.08 seconds, to finish 18th in the 100-meter butterfly.
UP NEXT
- The Blue Devils wrap up the 2022 fall schedule with a dual meet at Queens University on Saturday Dec. 3. The meet will begin at 11 a.m. from the Levine Aquatic Center in Charlotte, N.C.
