DURHAM – The Duke softball program has been named the No. 20 team in the nation in the USA Today/NFCA preseason rankings, as the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Blue Devils are one of four ACC programs in the top-25, joining No. 4 Florida State, No. 13 Virginia Tech and No. 15 Clemson. The Blue Devils match the ranking the team ended with following the 2021 season.

Marissa Young and the Blue Devils return 17 members of last season's ACC Championship team, headlined by three players ranked in the nation's top-100 by Extra Innings Softball and Softball America – graduate student
Peyton St. George and seniors
Deja Davis and
Shelby Walters. The team also returns graduate student
Jameson Kavel, who was named preseason All-ACC, while adding the fourth-ranked signing class in the nation according to Extra Innings Softball.
With the NFCA poll's release, the Blue Devils have been ranked in the top-20 of all four major preseason polls for the first time in program history.
Duke will open the season at the Kajikawa Classic, in Tempe, Ariz., from Feb. 11-13. The Blue Devils will start the stretch with games against California Baptist at 11 a.m. ET, and No. 5 Oklahoma State at 1:30 p.m.
