DURHAM – Duke registered a 4-2 come-from-behind win over Virginia Commonwealth on Friday night in Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

The Blue Devils improve to 4-2 on the year, while the Rams dip to 2-4.

VCU earned the early 1-0 edge after claiming the doubles point. No. 25 Charles Bertimon and Maxence Bertimon bested No. 45 Garrett Johns and Sean Sculley 6-3 on the main court to kick off doubles play. Connor Krug and Niroop Vallabhaneni responded to knot things up after defeating Joaquim Almeida and Matisse Bobichon 7-6 (7) on court three. With the doubles point coming down to the outcome on court two, Rayane Stable and Inigo Torre Martin edged Michael Heller and Andrew Zhang 7-5 to steal the point.

No. 107 Krug made quick work of Maxence Bertimon on court three 6-3, 6-3 during singles action to pull the Blue Devils even in the overall match. No. 103 Zhang then extended Duke's lead to 2-1 after beating Stable on court two 6-3, 6-3.

The Rams would not go away though as they tied the match up at 2-2 after Torre Martin bested Andrew Dale 6-1, 6-2 on court four.

Court five was the next to finish with Vallabhaneni defeating Almeida 6-3, 6-3. That win handed the Blue Devils a 3-2 advantage with two singles matches remaining.

Johns then clinched the match for Duke on the top court after he beat Charles Bertimon. Johns claimed a 6-3 victory in set one before outlasting Bertimon in tie-break fashion 7-6 (6) in the second frame.

Edu Güell's match against Bobichon on court six went unfinished. Bobichon earned a 3-6 win during the opening set, but Güell battled back to register a 6-4 victory in the second. Bobichon was lead Güell 3-2 in the third frame before it was halted.

Duke is back in Sheffield on Sunday when it hosts No. 10 Kentucky at 12 p.m. (noon)
