DURHAM – Duke junior longstick midfielder
Tyler Carpenter has been named the ACC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week following his standout performance in the win over No. 11 Denver last weekend. This is Carpenter's second career ACC weekly award.
Carpenter was outstanding defensively and on the faceoff wing in the Blue Devils' 19-10 win over No. 11 Denver Saturday. The native of Durham, N.C., scooped up a career-high seven ground balls and provided an assist to help the Blue Devils pull away in the second half.
Lining up on the faceoff wing during the game, Carpenter was instrumental in Duke winning 17-of-31 faceoffs and also a key part of the defense that held the Pioneers scoreless for over 21 minutes as Duke stretched its lead to 10 in the second half.
With 23 ground balls Carpenter is tied for the team lead in ground balls and ranks fifth in the league in the category. He owns seven caused turnovers as well to rank second for the Blue Devils and sixth in the ACC.
Seventh-ranked Duke hits the road for the first time this season, taking on No. 10 Penn at MacArthur High School in Levittown, N.Y. Faceoff is set for 12 p.m.
