CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – No. 18 Duke men's tennis recorded its fifth consecutive win Friday afternoon after it beat Boston College, 7-0, at The Weymouth Club.
Â
"Our guys did a good job taking care of business today by picking up another ACC road win," Duke head coach
Ramsey Smith said. "It has been a very busy last two weeks for the team, and it will be good for us to have the rest of the weekend off. I am looking forward to getting back to work Monday to prepare for a nice stretch of five home matches."
Â
The Blue Devils improve to 12-4 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Boston College drops to 4-7 and 0-3, respectively.
Â
Duke made quick work of the Eagles in doubles play, claiming the point after wins by
Arturo Kam and
Jake Krug as well as
Faris Khan and
Niroop Vallabhaneni. Kam and Krug were the first to finish on court three following their 6-3 victory over Oliver Worth and Bennett Turner. Khan and Vallabhaneni continued that momentum on the top court by besting Max Motlagh and Will Kasten, 6-3. The match on court two between Mason Fung and Jake Vassel against
Garrett Johns and
Andrew Dale went unfinished with the Eagles' leading 5-4.
Â
Khan then recorded a 6-1, 6-2 win on court three over Kasten in singles action to hand the Blue Devils a 2-0 edge. Kam followed that up by defeating Connor McDonald on court six by 6-2 and 6-4 decisions for Duke's third point of the match.
Â
Senior
Edu Güell clinched the overall match for the visitors by beating Shreekar Eedara 6-0, 6-2 on court four.
Â
Duke also claimed the final three matches of the day to secure the sweep after wins by
Andrew Zhang on court two, Vallabhaneni on court five and Johns on court one.
Â
The Blue Devils welcome Notre Dame and Louisville on Friday and Sunday, respectively, for two additional ACC contests. Duke will face off against the Fighting Irish at 4 p.m. on Friday before meeting up with the Cardinals at 12 p.m. on Sunday. Â All matches are scheduled to be played at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
