MIAMI, Fla. – Playing in its fifth ranked contest of the season, No. 10 Duke women's tennis dropped a tight match to ninth-ranked Miami, 4-3, Sunday morning at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
Miami won two of the three doubles matches to collect the opening point. The Hurricanes picked up a 6-3 win in flight one before the Duke tandem of
Chloe Beck and
Ellie Coleman ushered a response and grinded out a 6-4 victory over the 62nd-ranked duo of Dianna Khodan and Maya Tahan. The doubles point came down to another tightly contested match at number one, but Miami was able to outlast No.75
Margaryta Bilokin and
Eliza Omirou (6-4) to grab the 1-0 lead.
After the home team extended their advantage to three, No. 7 Beck got the Blue Devils on the board as she rallied from one set down in flight two to take down No. 46 Eden Richardson – 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. Miami clinched the match shortly after with a three-set win in the top spot.
Playing out the remaining courts, the Blue Devils scored the final two points of the match to produce the final margin. Senior
Kelly Chen recorded a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory over #64 Isabella Pfennig on court three, and Coleman fought back from a one set deficit to top Khodan (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) at number six.
