DURHAM – No. 40 Duke men's tennis fell 4-0 Friday afternoon to No. 18 Virginia at Ambler Tennis Stadium.

The Blue Devils dip to 7-4 on the year and 0-1 in ACC play, while the Cavaliers improve to 7-5 and 1-0, respectively.

Virginia kicked off the day by claiming the doubles point. Gianni Ross and William Woodall bested Connor Krug and Andrew Zhang, 6-2, on court two before Inaki Montes and Jeffrey von der Schulenburg defeated Faris Khan and Niroop Vallabhaneni, 6-4, on court three. No. 17 Chris Rodesch and Ryan Goetz were leading Garrett Johns and Sean Sculley, 5-4, on the top court when the match was halted.

The Cavaliers continued momentum in singles action with three-straight victories. No. 57 Goetz beat Edu Güell 6-3, 6-1 on court four for Virginia's second point of the match. Gianni Ross then earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Vallabhaneni on court five to extend the Cavaliers lead to 3-0.

On the main court, No. 48 Montes bested No. 118 Johns 6-3, 6-3 to claim the overall win for Virginia.

Three singles matches went unfinished on the day. No. 21 Rodesch registered a 6-3 victory in the opening set against Zhang on court two, but the Bloomfield Hills, Mich., native rallied back for a 6-3 win of his own in the second. Zhang was then leading Rodesch 2-1 in the third frame before the match was stopped.

Krug dropped a close 7-6 (8) tie-break opening set on court three to No. 61 von der Schulenburg but battled back to register a 6-4 victory in the second. The match was clinched by Virginia before their third frame begun.

On court six, Andrew Dale bested Jackson Allen 6-2 in his first set, but Allen posted a 3-6 win in the second. Allen was leading 1-0 when the match was ceased.

The Blue Devils next welcome Virginia Tech on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ambler Tennis Stadium.
