DURHAM – The draws for the 2022 NCAA Singles Men's Tennis Championships were released Sunday with junior Garrett Johns set to compete in the first round of play at 11 a.m. (10 a.m. CT) on Monday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Ill.
Johns, who is ranked No. 49 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings, received an at-large bid to compete in the 64-player field for the first time in his career. He is the first Blue Devil in the national singles competition since Nicholas Alvarez made the field in 2018.
Johns, Duke's No. 1 singles player, will begin the singles championship against No. 55 Ryan Seggerman of Princeton. Johns owns an 18-9 overall record with an 7-4 mark against nationally ranked opponents this season. Included in his 18 wins is an upset of the nation's No. 22 player with a 7-6 (2), 6-7 (4), 6-3, victory against North Carolina's Brian Cernoch on March 16.
Seggerman holds a 16-10 overall record on the Tigers' top court. He is also 3-5 against nationally ranked opponents.
All matches shall be the best-of-three sets. No-ad scoring and a 7-point tiebreaker (first to seven points, must win by two points) at six-games-all will be used for all matches.Â
