DURHAM β A trio of incoming members of the Duke field hockey team have been selected to compete in the 2022 Nexus Championship, presented by Osaka Hockey, USA field hockey announced this week. The group of
Reagan Ciabattoni,
Brynn Crouse and
Abby Spear will play in the week-long event at the end of June.
The 2022 Nexus Championship will take place in June 23-30 in Virginia Beach, Va. This selection marks the completion of the regional Selection Camp sessions and the next step in the Olympic Development Pathway and tryout process for the Junior U.S. National Teams.

The trio is three of the six talented class Duke is set to welcome this fall. All three are tabbed top-50 players by MAX Field Hockey with Crouse and Spear garnering All-America nods this past year. Crouse was voted a MAX Field Hockey second-team All-American, while Spear picked up NFHCA All-America first team recognition.

Ciabattoni arrives at Duke after a heralded career at Cape Henlopen, finishing with 65 goals and 47 assists for 177 points. She was a four-time all-state selection and named the Delaware Division I Player of the Year as a junior and senior.

A midfielder, Crouse was a three-time all-state choice for Northern York. She is a three-time team MVP for Northern York and has been a fixture in the USA field hockey pool throughout her youth career.

Spear, a standout goaltender, anchored Frank W. Cox to four consecutive region and state titles. She allowed just one goal her senior season and let in just six as a sophomore. She also helped lead her club team, TCOYO, to multiple national club championships.

At the conclusion of the Nexus Championship, top performing athletes in qualifying age groups will be invited to participate in the 2022 AAU Junior Olympic GamesΒ and additional Junior National Team selection opportunities.
