JuanCarlos “JC” Castrillon joins the Blue Devils after wrapping up a successful prep career at Valley Stream Central High School and Long Island Aquatic Club. JC was coached by Dave Ferris.
He is the son of Maribel and Juan Carlos Castrillon and has an older sister, Emily.
IN THE POOL HIGHLIGHTS
- Five-time Junior National qualifier, qualifying in the 400 and 1,500 freestyle as a freshman, the 200 and 500 freestyle as a junior and the 200 backstroke as a senior
- Tabbed the top-ranked recruit in the state of New York and the No. 89 prospect in the class of 2022
- Two-time champion at the 2020 Metropolitan Senior Championships - 800 and 1,500 Freestyle
- Five-time finalist at the 2021 Metropolitan Senior Championships, including three second-place finishes in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle

Why Duke in one word? Family
What is your favorite swimming memory so far? Watching friend Eduardo make his first NCSA cut in 200 fly. Everyone was screaming and cheering him on and i nearly lost my voice, but it was one of the most enjoyable experiences i’ve ever had.
What is your pre-race hype song? LEMONHEAD by Tyler, the Creator
Do you have any hidden talents? Pickle ball master
If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? Definitely has to be ice cream
