DURHAM – After a solid junior campaign, Duke's
Garrett Johns finished in the top-50 of the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.
The Blue Devils' top singles player came in at No. 49 after representing Duke during the 2022 NCAA Singles Championship last month. The Atlanta, Ga., native became the first Blue Devil in the national singles competition since
Nicholas Alvarez made the field in 2018. He finished the season with a 19-10 overall singles mark, including a 13-7 record in dual action.
On the year, Johns held an 8-8 mark against nationally ranked opponents, including a match-clinching victory over No. 22 Brian Cernoch of North Carolina. In total, he earned five match-clinching wins, which were second-most on the team.
As a team, the Blue Devils concluded the 2022 season ranked No. 21 in the final ITA poll, the program's highest mark since finishing the 2015 season at No. 10.
