DURHAM – The sixth-ranked Duke women's tennis team will open the 2023 spring slate Friday, Jan. 13 as the Blue Devils host Furman in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center at 4 p.m. Duke head coach
Jamie Ashworth enters his 27th season at the helm of the Blue Devils and features one of his most talented rosters in 2023.
Duke will close the weekend by hosting a doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 15. The Blue Devils will welcome Charleston Southern at 10 a.m., followed by Charlotte at 5 p.m. Charleston Southern and Charlotte will also face each other at 1:30 p.m. Free parking will be available in the blue zone lot for all fans.
The Series with Furman
Duke and Furman will meet for the 16th time in school history with the Blue Devils leading the series 15-0 overall. The two schools will meet for the fourth time since 2018. In matches played in Durham, Duke holds a 10-0 ledger.
In the last matchup in 2022, Duke took the contest, 6-1, in Greenville, S.C. The Blue Devils won the opening doubles point and then transitioning to singles, Duke was in control, taking 5-of-6 matches to secure the win.
Duke Versus the Southern Conference
The Blue Devils are 17-2 all-time versus the Southern Conference and are on a current 16-match win streak against SoCon foes.
Scouting Furman
Furman will head to Durham for the season opener with a couple of familiar faces. Head coach Michelle Dasso was an associate head coach with the Blue Devils the past three seasons, while assistant coach
Kelly Chen was one of Duke's winningest players of all-time collecting a 134-48 record over the last five years.
The Paladins finished the 2022 season with a 22-7 overall record and claimed the SoCon's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by capturing its 21st league title. Furman, which made its 14th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, return the reigning SoCon Freshman of the Year, Sara Snyder, who was ranked 65th nationally in the spring of 2022. Snyder, Ellie Schulson, and Jess Dawson all earned spots on the SoCon All-Freshman team and the All-SoCon second team for singles last season.
The Series with Charleston Southern
Duke and Charleston Southern will square off for the first time in series history at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. CSU is coming off a Big South Conference Championship last season, its second consecutive since the 2020-21 season.
Duke Versus the Big South Conference
The Blue Devils are 1-0 all-time versus the Big South, with its sole victory coming against Campbell on May 11, 2001, in which Duke won the match 4-0.
Scouting Charleston Southern
Led by head coach Anca Dumitrescu, the Buccaneer tennis program is coming off a 17-6 ledger along with their second straight Big South Championship. Charleston Southern returns All-Big South honorees Luiza Fullana and Noah Boyd from a season ago.
The Series with Charlotte
Duke and the Charlotte 49ers will face off for just the second time in series history, with the Blue Devils winning the last match. It has been two years since the last matchup, in which Duke swept Charlotte, 7-0, on Jan. 14, 2021.
Duke Versus the Conference USA
The Blue Devils feature a 13-2 ledger versus Conference USA opponents. Duke is on a current 11-match win streak against C-USA foes.
Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte is coming off a 19-7 record from a year ago under the direction of head coach Anthony Davison. The 49ers return All-Conference USA selections Lucia Quiterio, Ruxi Schech, Margaux Maguet, Kaavya Sawhney and Lucie Petruzelova.
Charlotte features the No. 21 ranked doubles squad in the nation with the duo of Margauz Maquet and Lucia Quiterio along with the No. 57 tandem of Kaavya Sawhney and Ruxi Schech.

Duke opens the 2023 campaign ranked No. 6 in the ITA preseason coaches' poll, which is sponsored by Tennis-Point. With the top-10 ranking, the Blue Devils have been listed in the top 10 in seven straight years under the direction of head coach
Jamie Ashworth. Entering his 27th season at the helm, Ashworth has guided Duke to a total of 20 top-10 preseason rankings since 2001.
Texas enters the season ranked No. 1, after receiving seven first-place votes. North Carolina, NC State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Duke, Virginia, Georgia, Stanford and Pepperdine round out the top 10. The ACC received six teams in the preseason listing – North Carolina (2), NC State (3), Duke (6), Virginia (7), Miami (11) and Georgia Tech (25).

Chloe Beck is No. 3,
Emma Jackson is No. 22 and
Cameron Morra is No. 28. After collecting a 13-3 record in the fall, Beck/Morra are No. 13 nationally in doubles.
Approaching a Milestone

Cameron Morra currently owns a 94-39 career singles record and is six wins away from reaching the 100-win mark. Senior
Chloe Beck is only 16 wins away from reaching 100 wins as well, while featuring an 84-24 ledger. Beck also owns a 49-8 dual match record and needs one win to reach the 50-win mark.
Playing at Home
The Blue Devils have featured an impressive home court advantage when playing in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center as Duke owns an 85-3 ledger over the last 14 years. Duke has collected a 43-1 record over the last seven seasons with the lone loss coming to Oklahoma in 2022. Head coach

Experience Returns
Duke is coming off making its 11th appearance in the NCAA Semifinals and claiming the ninth ACC Championship under the direction of head coach
Jamie Ashworth. The Blue Devils notched a 23-4 overall ledger and return All-America selections
Chloe Beck and
Georgia Drummy. Other returning letterwinners include
Karolina Berankova,
Ellie Coleman and
Emma Jackson.
Ashworth also brought in three highly-ranked graduate transfers with the addition of
Iuliia Bryzgalova,
Cameron Morra and
Brianna Shvets. All three have played No. 1 singles at one point in their careers. Bryzgalova arrives from Penn where she totaled a 23-7 ledger a year ago. Morra was a five-time All-American at North Carolina with an 87-33 singles mark. Shvets collected a 59-26 record in singles at Princeton.

Georgia Drummy enters the 2023 dual match season a winner of eight straight dual matches dating back to April of 2022. Over her career, she owns a 58-19 record in dual match action.
• The Blue Devils have won 15-straight season openers with the last loss coming on Jan. 28 on the road at ninth-ranked Northwestern (6-1). When Duke has opened the season at home, the Blue Devils own an 11-0 ledger under the direction of head coach
