DURHAM – Duke University will play in its 16th bowl game when it meets Troy in the Birmingham Bowl, presented by 76®, on Saturday, December 23 in Birmingham, Ala.
Kickoff from Protective Stadium is set for 12 noon (11 a.m. CT), and the game will be televised live by ABC. The meeting on the gridiron between the Blue Devils (7-5) and the Trojans (11-2) will mark the third in series history with Duke winning the previous two matchups.

Offensively, the Blue Devils are led by running backs Jaquez MooreandJordan Waters and wide receivers Jalon Calhoun and Jordan Moore, who have combined for 3,131 yards of total offense and 30 touchdowns. As a team, the Blue Devils have surpassed 2,000-plus rushing and receiving yards on the year. Additionally, All-ACC selections Graham Barton and Jacob Monk anchor a Blue Devil offensive line that has helped Duke rank tied for second in the ACC and tied for 20th nationally in sacks allowed (15), tied for second in the league and tied for 30th nationally in tackles for loss allowed (4.67), and fourth in the ACC and tied for 30th nationally in rushing touchdowns (25).
Defensively, Duke heads into the bowl season ranking 14th nationally in red zone defense (.756), 21st in scoring defense (19.80), 28th in defensive yards per play allowed (5.15), 30th in fourth-down conversion defense (.440) and 45th in total defense (345.58). The Blue Devils' defense is led by All-ACC first team recipient and Jim Tatum Award winner DeWayne Carter, who's tallied 39 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, four quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, one blocked kick and one fumble recovery for a touchdown this season. Additionally, redshirt sophomore linebacker Tre Freeman and senior defensive tackle Aeneas Peebles have helped Duke's defensive cause this year as Freeman ranks sixth in the ACC in tackles, recording 97 total stops, while Peebles leads the team with 8.5 tackles for loss.
Duke holds an all-time record of 7-8 in bowl games and enters this year's Birmingham Bowl having won four consecutive postseason contests.
