DURHAM – Fourteen members of the Duke field hockey team have been named to the 2022 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad the organization announced Thursday.
Earning recognition for their efforts in the classroom and on the turf are
Paige Bitting, Alayna Burns, Issy Carey, Barb Civitella, Brynn Crouse, Kira Curland, Piper Hampsch, Mary Harkins, Megan Maransky, Alaina McVeigh, Hannah Miller, Abby Spear, Macy Szukics and
Shea Tatara.
This is the fourth award for Harkins and Miller while the group of Burns, Civitella, Hampsch, Tatara garnered their third consecutive academic accolade.
The NFHCA National Academic Squad program, sponsored by
OPA Winning Teams, honors undergraduate collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher through the first semester of the current academic year, and were nominated by their NFHCA member coach.
Overall, 965 student-athletes from 77 Division I institutions have been named to the 2022 NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad.
As a team this past fall, the Blue Devils posted a 3.571 GPA with Carey earning Dean's List with Distinction. An Environmental Sciences and Policy major, Miller is one of six players across the league to garner recognition for the third time.
