DURHAM — Duke women's basketball guard/forward
Elizabeth Balogun is primed for the 2023 WNBA Draft, scheduled for Monday, April 10 at Spring Studios in New York. The WNBA Draft is slated to begin at 7 p.m., ET and will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Balogun, a 2023 Cheryl Miller Small Forward of the Year Preseason and Midseason Top-10 watch list candidate, played in all 33 games with 27 starts for the Blue Devils. Shooting at a 51.2-percent clip from the field and 46.4 percent from distance, Balogun finished second on the team in scoring (10.2 ppg) while leading the rebounding efforts with 5.2 boards per game.
Named the Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) for the week of January 4, the Lagos, Nigeria product scored in double figures 17 times. She also tallied three double-doubles this season in wins over Louisville (20 pts, 10 rebs), at Wake Forest (12 pts, 10 rebs) and versus NC State (16 pts, 12 rebs).
Duke has had 26 student-athletes drafted since 1999 in the WNBA, with 11 of them being first-round draft selections. The Blue Devils currently feature five alumnae in the league including Lexie Brown (Los Angeles), Chelsea Gray (Las Vegas), Elizabeth Williams (Chicago) and Jasmine Thomas (Los Angeles).
Indiana owns the No. 1 selection in the 2023 draft, followed by Minnesota, Dallas, Washington and Dallas in the top-five. Atlanta, Indiana, Atlanta, Seattle, Los Angeles, Dallas and Minnesota round out the 12 picks in the first round. The draft will feature three rounds and a total of 36 selections.
