PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Duke track and field resumed competition at the Penn Relays on Friday, with the second day's performances headlined by a trio of Blue Devil relay units – the 4x100m along with both the men's and women's distance medley relays (DMR) – with each registering a top-five program mark.
The Blue Devils also opened action at the Charlotte Invitational, going on to conclude the first day of competition with a trio of top-five placements, including a win in the women's 800m invite.
PENN RELAYS
- Duke's unit of graduate student Isabel Wakefield, senior Halle Bieber, freshman Julia Jackson and sophomore Abby Geiser clocked the third-fastest 4x100m relay time in Duke history.
- The quartet posted the second-fastest time of the field, punching its ticket to Saturday's final via a finish of 44.44 seconds.
- Following suit shortly after was the women's DMR, the foursome comprised of indoor USTFCCCA Second Team All-Americans graduate student Karly Forker, sophomore Megan McGinnis, freshman Lauren Tolbert and sophomore Amina Maatoug. The Duke relay posted a time of 11:04.05 – good for No. 2 all-time in program lore.
- On the men's side, Duke's quartet of juniors Austin Gabay and Jackson Walker, sophomore Beck Wittstadt and graduate student Nick Dahl registered the third-fastest time in Duke history clocking 9:36.96.
- The women's sprint medley relay (SMR) featuring Geiser, Bieber, McGinnis and Maatoug turned in a third-place finish of their own behind a run of 3:52.34.
- Isabel Wakefield and the women's 4x400m relay advanced to their respective event finals after strong showings in the opening heats.
- Duke's squad of Jackson, Tolbert, graduate student Madison Mulder and McGinnis clocked the fastest time of their heat and fourth-fastest time of the overall field en route to earning the automatic qualifier via a time of 3:39.74.
- Wakefield advanced to the final of the 100m hurdles, qualifying on time with a finish of 13.84 seconds.
CHARLOTTE INVITATIONAL
- The Blue Devils picked up an event win in the 800m invite via a strong race from Charlotte Tomkinson as the junior posted the fastest time of the field of 2:07.45.
- Freshman Anna Corcoran also had a solid showing in the 800m earning a fifth-place finish after clocking 2:09.52.
- Classmate Ryan Banko turned in a top-five finish in the men's 3,000m steeplechase, running his race in 9:17.17 to place fourth.
