DURHAM – 'The All 22' podcast, an Inside Look at Duke Football, is back for the spring season and the second episode is now available via iTunes and Google Play.
The podcast, hosted by football radio crew members David Shumate, Dave Harding and John Roth, features guests including current and former players and members of the Blue Devil coaching staff as well as local and national football reporters to discuss all things Duke football.
With the Blue Devils back on the practice field, Mike Elko's group looks to build on a nine-win season during his first year in Durham. This episode features a conversation with three key returners on the offensive side of the football in left tackle Graham Barton, quarterback Riley Leonard, and wide receiver Jordan Moore.
Below is a preview of the episode.
DS: You guys obviously had a really good season winning nine games. Now that you've done some weightlifting, some spring workouts, I'm curious, what is your favorite part of the off-season?
GB: I would say I enjoy the spring the most. It's a time to focus on the little things, clean some stuff up from the year, get stronger, and get in the weight room. You spend a lot of time around your teammates, it's a busy schedule, but it's not the same schedule as the fall. You've got a little time off to relax, fine-tune some things and improve but you know, you're still playing a lot of football.
DS: Before we get to spring and everything you've been doing to get ready for next season let's talk about the last season a little bit. When you look back and you watch the film, I know we talked after the year and I wouldn't say you were pissed off or frustrated, but certainly you were ready to do more than what you guys did last year. But when you look back, what was the biggest thing that you liked about your game?
RL: Yeah, you kind of hit on it - not really satisfied with being 9-4. I think we could have been an undefeated team last year, but going back, there's so many different parts of my game that I want to work on. Things like really controlling the game and becoming an NFL quarterback and leading the offense down the field, just knowing how to play the game. I think I have the physical ability to do so, I need greater arm strength, but for the most part just leading the team and studying NFL guys and how they operate, you know, every single day.
DS: You kind of jumped into the deep end with the wide receiver position basically as the season was getting underway. When you look back, what did you notice in your game from the start of the season to the end of it, and maybe even to where you are now as a wide receiver?
JM: Yeah, I feel like in the start of the season I was very raw and I think toward the end of the season I got a little bit better, but still very raw. I'm just trying to hone in on every little detail and become a more savvy route runner. I take pride in my routes, but I'm very excited to see what a full year can do.
