DURHAM – The sixth-seeded Duke women's tennis team opens the 2023 NCAA Tournament Friday by hosting the NCAA First and Second Rounds at Ambler Tennis Stadium in Durham, N.C. The Blue Devils face William & Mary at 5 p.m.
Duke will also host No. 20 UCLA (13-7) and No. 37 Texas Tech (14-10) on Friday at 2 p.m. The winning teams of both first-round matches will take the court in the NCAA Second Round on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Duke will provide live scoring and live video for all three matches in Durham this weekend. Cracked Racquets will also provide live coverage via its
CrossCourt Cast coverage.
Tickets & Parking
Tickets for the NCAA First and Second rounds will be $5 plus a $1 processing fee online and at the gate for ages three and up. Ages two and under receive free admission. Duke students will be admitted free with a valid student ID. No cash accepted, only major credit cards. Parking for all fans will be free in the
Blue Zone lot.
Duke in the NCAA Championship
In 33 appearances, the Blue Devils have tallied a 79-32 record for a 71.2 winning percentage, advanced to the NCAA Semifinals 11 different times and won the 2009 NCAA Championship. Duke head coach
Jamie Ashworth has guided the Blue Devils into the NCAA Tournament each of his 27 seasons at Duke, including nine semifinal trips and the 2009 title. The Blue Devils have advanced to the NCAA semifinals in three out of the last four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Ashworth owns a record of 67-24 (.736) in the tournament over his tenure at the helm of the program.
Over the last six years, Duke has been a top-6 seed in the NCAA Tournament in four of those seasons (2023 – No. 6, 2022 – No. 3, 2019 – No. 5, 2018 – No. 3).
The Blue Devils will host the NCAA First and Second Rounds for the 17th time in school history. Duke features a 34-2 record in Durham during the NCAA Tournament with losses coming in 2016 and 2007 to Texas and North Carolina, respectively. In matches played in the NCAA Tournament, Duke is 3-0 with wins coming in 2003 (5-0), 2004 (4-0) and 2008 (4-1).

The Series with UCLA
Duke and UCLA have met 10 times in school history with the Bruins leading the series, 6-4. The last meeting came on May 17, 2014 in the NCAA Tournament with UCLA winning 4-2. UCLA has won three out of the last four meetings.
In matches played in the NCAA Tournament, the two programs are tied 2-2 with the Blue Devils winning in 2003 (4-0) and 2010 (4-2). The Bruins won in 2011 (4-2) and 2014 (4-2).

UCLA enters the NCAA Tournament with a 13-7 record and winners of seven out of its last nine matches under head coach Stella Sampras Webster. The Bruins have received an invitation to play in the NCAA Tournament every year since 1982 when regional action started.
In the latest ITA rankings, Fangran Tian (14) and Kimmi Hance (112) are ranked in singles. The duo of Elise Wagle and Hance are No. 7 in doubles.
The Series with Texas Tech
Duke and Texas Tech have met twice in school history with both meetings coming in the NCAA Tournament. The Blue Devils lead the series, 2-0, win wins coming in 2013 (4-3) and 2018 (4-1).

What is Next?
If the Blue Devils defeat the Tribe on Friday, Duke will take on the winner of the UCLA/Texas Tech match on Saturday at 5 p.m., in the NCAA Second Round.
The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 12. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. With Duke seeded No. 6, if the Blue Devils advance to the round of 16 Duke will host a super-regional. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-20. The event will be hosted by the University of Central Florida and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission at the USTA National Campus.
NCAA Singles Invites
The trio of

Emma Jackson and
Georgia Drummy received invitations to compete in the NCAA Singles Championship, which will be contested May 22-27 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. The Blue Devils earned at-large bids to compete in the 64-player singles field.
Beck and Drummy will make their second appearance, while Jackson received the bid for the first time in her career.

Chloe Beck needs one more singles and doubles win to reach 30 for the 2022-23 campaign. She would be the 15th Blue Devil to post back-to-back 30 or more singles wins. Beck registered 34 wins last season and owns a 29-4 singles record in 2022-23.
When Beck reaches 30 singles and 30 doubles wins for the year, she will become just the fourth Blue Devil to collect 30+ singles and doubles wins in a season – Beatrice Capra (2011-12), Amanda Johnson (2000-01) and Karin Miller (1996-97).
Impressive Doubles
Duke's doubles duo of
Georgia Drummy and
Iuliia Bryzgalova have been very impressive this season with a 13-1 overall and 12-0 mark in the ACC.
With the win at North Carolina, Drummy and Bryzgalova set the school record for most ACC doubles wins with 12. The previous record was 11 by Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka in 2007-08, while Meible Chi and Hannah Zhao posted 10 in 2017-18.
The previous best undefeated ACC doubles seasons in school history were recorded by Vanessa Webb/Karen Goldstein (8-0 in 1997-98), Webb/Goldstein (8-0 in 1998-99) and Julie DeRoo/Amanda Johnson (8-0 in 2001-02).
20-Win Marks
The Blue Devils reached the 20-win mark for the 19th time in school history under head coach
Jamie Ashworth and 29th time overall in program history with their 6-1 victory Sunday against Florida State.
Duke features the most 20-win seasons in the ACC since the 1997-98 campaign, which was Ashworth's first full season as the head coach with the Blue Devils. Duke owns 19 20-win seasons to lead the league – Duke (19), North Carolina (18), Miami (10), Georgia Tech (7), Clemson (6), Virginia (5), Wake Forest (4), NC State (4) and Florida State (2).
At Boston College and Syracuse, both
Emma Jackson and
Ellie Coleman reached the 20-win singles marks on the season. The duo has posted 20 singles wins in each of their first two seasons with the Blue Devils.

Chloe Beck ranks in the top-10 in numerous categories in the Duke record book. In the career record book, she ranks eighth in ACC singles wins (34), first in consecutive ACC singles wins (23), eighth in doubles wins (103), tied for sixth in singles wins at the No. 1 position (25) and 10th in combined singles/doubles wins in a career (216).

Cameron Morra already ranks eighth on Duke's list for most doubles wins in a season with 28. With one more victory, the tandem will move into a tie for sixth.
Record 15 Wins at Home
With Duke's 4-3 win over No. 7 NC State on April 8, the Blue Devils totaled their school-record 15th home win this season. Duke features a 15-0 ledger at home in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center and Ambler Tennis Stadium.
The previous record of 14 happened in 2018-19, 2016-17, 2013-14 and 2011-12).

Chloe Beck became the 29th Blue Devil to reach 100 singles wins with a win at Syracuse. She also collected her 100th career doubles win as well. Beck also owns a 66-9 dual match record and has won 21 out of her last 22 matches.
Graduate student
Cameron Morra became the 28th Blue Devil to reach the 100-win mark at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship earlier this spring.
Doubles Play
After winning the doubles point in the first eight matches, Duke dropped the doubles point in three of the next five contests. Duke had won the doubles point in 11 straight matches, before dropping the point at North Carolina and versus Georgia Tech in the last two matches. The Blue Devils have lost the doubles point in all four losses this season (Oklahoma, Virginia and North Carolina).
