DURHAM – Duke senior safety Jaylen Stinsonhas been selected to the preseason watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, presented by Texas Roadhouse, which is an honor presented to the most versatile player in major college football.

Stinson returns for his second year as Duke's starting safety and was selected as a preseason All-ACC selection by Athlon Sports (3rd team) and Pro Football Focus (1st team). He was also a preseason All-ACC member by Athlon Sports (1st team), Pro Football Focus (1st team) and Phil Steele's College Football Preview (3rd team) as a kickoff return specialist.Â

In 36 career games (18 starts), Stinson has compiled 129 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, two interceptions, four pass breakups, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, one quarterback pressure and one muffed punt recovery for a touchdown. He has added 66 kickoff returns for 1,553 yards (23.53) with two scores.

The Opelika, Ala., native has earned two-plus tackles in 30 contests and four-plus tackles in 15 games during his career. He tallied a career-best 11 tackles against Northwestern in 2022 and garnered a career-best 1.5 tackles for loss against North Carolina A&T last year. The 5-8, 177-pound safety tallied 74 tackles last season for the Blue Devils, and joined former teammates Darius Joinerand Shaka Heywardas one of three trios in the ACC with at least three players with 74-plus tackles in 2022.
Now in its 14th season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner in Louisville, Ky., in March 2024.
